Bob DuPuy is a senior advisor at Evolution Media Capital (EMC), a boutique investment banking firm for the media and sports industries, which was formed in partnership with Creative Artists Agency in 2008. Based in New York, DuPuy specializes in content rights and mergers and acquisitions.
Since the inception of EMC, the company has raised or advised on more than $15 billion in transactions for its clients, including serving as buy-side advisors on behalf of the group led by Joshua Harris, a co-founder of the private equity firm Apollo Global Management, in its acquisition of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team from the sports company Comcast-Spectacor. EMC also represented the investment group in its successful acquisition of Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise, the Texas Rangers, and brokered its broadcast media rights deal, which at the time of the deal, was reported to be the largest in MLB history.
Prior to joining EMC in 2011, DuPuy served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of MLB. During his 12-year tenure with the league and as Commissioner Bud Selig’s top aide, DuPuy led the formation of MLB Advanced Media, which includes MLB’s website. Before working for MLB, DuPuy was a partner and management committee member of Foley & Lardner LLP, a Milwaukee-based law firm. He returned to Foley & Lardner in 2010 as a partner with the firm’s sports industry team.
DuPuy graduated from Dartmouth College and received his J.D. from Cornell Law School. He has taught legal ethics and professional responsibility at Cornell University, Northwestern Law School, the University of Wisconsin School of Law, and Marquette University Law School, and has long served as a faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
