Mr Chew Men Leong is the Chief Executive of PUB, the national water agency in Singapore which oversees the country’s water, used water and drainage systems. As the Chief Executive, he is responsible for ensuring an adequate and affordable water supply, as well as efficient sanitation and drainage systems for the population of Singapore. Mr Chew is also concurrently the Executive Director of the Environment and Water Industry Programme Office (EWI), an inter-agency outfit that spearheads the growth of the environment and water sector in Singapore. The EWI aims to develop Singapore into a global hub for water technologies through attracting investments from top water players, helping local companies make in-roads overseas, and building a vibrant and thriving water R&D landscape in Singapore.
Prior to PUB in 2011, Mr Chew served 25 years in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). He was the Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) from 31 August 2007 to 29 March 2011. As the Chief of Navy, he played an instrumental role in operationalising key aspects of the RSN’s 3rd Generation, transforming its force structure, capability development plans and its people development framework.
Mr Chew was awarded the SAF Overseas Scholarship in 1987. He graduated with First Class Honours degree in Engineering from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, United Kingdom in 1990, and earned his Master of Science (Management) from Stanford University, United States in 2002. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal – Gold (Military) by the Singapore Government in 2008.
