Senior Executive Editor
Laurie Hays is Executive Editor for Company News at Bloomberg News. She is in charge of Bloomberg’s global coverage of corporations, executives, mergers and acquisitions, law, science, environment and education. She supervises a staff of nearly 400 reporters and editors in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Prior to joining Bloomberg News in July 2008, Ms. Hays was a reporter and editor for the Wall Street Journal for 23 years. She joined the Journal as a reporter in 1986 covering the chemical industry, then moved to Moscow in 1990 where she covered the fall of the Soviet Union. She broke one of the first stories showing that western companies were no longer receiving payments from the Soviet government. The lack of funds was an early sign that the Kremlin was losing power. She returned to New York in 1993 to cover technology and banking and became the Atlanta bureau chief in 1998. She later became technology editor, national news editor and oversaw the paper’s New York coverage following 9/11. In 2007 she was named deputy managing editor for investigative projects.
The coverage she supervised contributed to the Journal’s 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting, a Gerald Loeb Award and a Scripps Howard Award. At Bloomberg News, she oversaw 2 Gerald Loeb Awards as well as a Polk and Education Writers Association award.
Ms. Hays is a graduate of Harvard College.
